The Club
Braintree Bowling Club is a community sports club which promotes the game of lawn bowls to people of all ages.
Members of the club enjoy both social, friendly bowling and competitive action and we have been blessed with winners at all levels including international, national and county competitions.
Club History
1919 - |
The club was formed by a group of local business men led by George Hunnable. |
1924 – |
The club moved from the memorial gardens to its current home. |
1997 - |
Carol Duckworth and Anne Beale won the English National Pairs. |
1998 - |
Carol Duckworth and Anne Beale won the British Isles Ladies Pairs. |
1999 to 2004 - |
Carol Duckworth represented England at international series against other countries. |
2002 - |
Carol Duckworth was a member of the Commonwealth Games Gold Medal winning team. |
2008 - |
Vic Cole and Malcolm Stark won the National Men's Over 55's Pairs. |
2010 - |
Grace Hopkins was a member of the Essex team that won the National Ladies Under 31 Double Rink. At County level we recently congratulated Martin Law on winning the Men’s Unbadged Singles competition, to follow a long line of individual and group success. |
2012 - |
The new clubhouse was opened, replacing the original which had seen many years of individual and group success. |
National and League Competitions
The club enters teams and individuals into a variety of National and League competitions. See side panel for further details on National and League competitions. See also Fixtures page.
Internal Club Competitions
The club runs a number of men's, ladies and mixed annual competitions which are open to all members. See Club Competitions page for further details.
The club also has a Monday night roll up. This is a chance to get to know other club members and is an ideal way of learning the skills and etiquette of the game.
