Carpet Bowls Latest

December 2019

Hi everyone,

Please find attached the end of year Chelmsford League standings.

Our wonderful win against RHP means that if we get a result away to Purleigh on Jan 6, we will leapfrog RHP, White Notley and Purleigh into third place.  Indeed, if we can win 8-0, we would move second above Notley Green as well.  Of course, this would be something of a false position given that we will have played more matches, but nonetheless it will hopefully put the frighteners on those waiting to play us in the new year. Well, that's the theory.

We really do need to put out our strongest team on Jan 6 what with Feering Blue coming to Braintree next on Jan 21.  But I still think we could get at least a draw against them, if the wind is in the right direction.

Those players who are not chosen to go to Purleigh will be given first dibbs for the home friendly against Black Notley on Jan 9, for which Ian has purchased a lovely trophy to be competed for over two legs.  Second leg at Black Notley on Monday Feb 17.  I will post a copy of the table in the clubhouse for all to see.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas now, if you are not down the club on Friday 20th , the last session before the day of the Purleigh visit.  First session of 2020 is on Jan 6 as well!

Hopefully the teams for Purleigh and Black Notley will be emailed early in the new year.

Braintree v Boreham Carpet Bowls

November 2019

Two wonder woods by the “Never-Say-Die” Peter Stow, with the last two Braintree deliveries of the match, secured our first Chelmsford East victory of the season on Monday, 25th November following two anticipated away defeats at Feering and RHP, and a solid home draw against a strong Purleigh team.

Peter's four (Sandra M, Linda B and Freda L) were narrowly 6-8 down going into the last end and Pete as skip was faced with a horrid, congested head.  But he weighed up the task and somehow managed to turn a one-down into two shots for an 8-8.

That secured a 5-3 win, up to 11 points in the table and a place above Boreham, Stisted and White Notley, although White Notley have played one game fewer.  White Notley lost 6-2 at Feering on Monday and face visits to Boreham and RHP before Braintree go to Stisted for our next match on December 10.

The other four (Jason N, Tony D, David G, Keith H) and the pairing of Bob S and John L both roared away and then hung on for wins.

The other pairing of Donna F and Ian N lost out but have had no luck whatsoever so far after sterling performances last season.

The absence of a couple of regulars mean team adjustments for the visit to Stisted.
