Welcome to Braintree Bowling Club. We are a club where new members, both beginners and experienced are always welcome no matter what your age or abilities.
If you are a beginner, we also hold coaching sessions to get you started on the bowling green.
We hope you will come and join us. If you would like further details, please feel free to contact us.
Our Club
Our Club is a private members lawn green bowling club founded in 1919. We are situated very close to the town centre with nearby transport links. Our facilities include a clubhouse, licensed bar, private parking and of course, a very well kept bowling green.
For non bowlers, we have social membership for accompanying spouses / family of full members. We also run various activities and social events throughout the year.
Members
The Club has a history of success at both National and County individual and team competitions and members are encouraged to enter external competitions.
We enter mixed and non mixed friendly matches and the more competitive games against other clubs and league matches, both home and away. We also have an internal league and a “Roll Up” for club members to play friendly games against each other.

The Club is introducing a new uniform, comprising a new shirt, shorts/trousers, warm jacket, and choice of lighter or heavier weight shower proof jackets.
Players in NWE League/Competitions, CMBL/Competitions, County and National Competitions will be expected to play in the new shirt and shorts/trousers once they are available.
A free shirt will be given to every Full / Life / Senior and Junior member and Carpet Bowls member (who represent the club in League games), thanks to our three sponsors and members, Steve Bones (P G Bones Plumbing & Heating), Anthony Cornwell (Cornwell Builders) & David Edney (Panners Coffee Bar). The offer of a free shirt will expire to existing members (and new applications prior to 31st March).
ORDERING YOUR NEW UNIFORM
To help members select the right size items our supplier has provided a range of shirts, shorts/trousers and jackets so that you can try the various sizes and select what fits you! The objective is to place our first order by the end of February.
To place your order we have arranged for the selection of shirts, shorts/trousers and jackets to be available in the clubhouse. Fittings will take place during February on:
Sunday 16th & 23rd – 10.00am to 12 Noon Friday 21st & 28th – 8.00pm onwards Saturday 22nd – 10.00am to 12 Noon Tuesday 25th – 10.00am to 12 Noon Wednesday 26th – 10.00am to 12 Noon Thursday 27th – 10.00am to 12 Noon
If you are unable to get to the clubhouse during the times stated, please contact: chair@braintreebowlingclub.com or contact Malcolm Stark or Paul Costin who can supply you with garment Size Charts for you to make your selection.
If you do not place your order for clothing by the end of February, you will not receive your items until the middle of the playing season or possibly later.
Prices for clothing items will be clearly displayed and will require a £10 deposit per item ordered. Cash is preferred but card payment will be available.
Your Renewal Packs are also available when visiting the club. (One error on welcome notes – NWE 1st Trial day should read 23rd April not 2nd as shown).

A chance to find out what is happening for the coming season, pay subs, collect handbooks and Avian cards and of course, have a catch up before the season starts.
Saturday 29th March, 7.00pm
Come to the Races at the Clubhouse and back a horse in the races with odds given as with the real racecourse. Bar open as usual.

On the 1st Saturday of each month we will be hosting a Supper Club for members with different meal themes each month.

Out Of Season Activities - Weekly
Carpet Bowls
Mondays & Wednesdays, 2.00pm to 5.00pm / Fridays 7.00pm
Played in the clubhouse, during the months of October – April, on two indoor carpet mats, this is a very sociable activity and a great ‘get together’.
For the more competitive, the Club enters a team in the local Chelmsford league, playing other clubs on a home / away basis. The cost is just £1.00 per person and includes tea / coffee and biscuits.
Crib Night
Wednesdays, 7.00pm
Whether you are an experienced Crib player or a beginner, why not come along to our Crib Night. If you have your own Crib board and cards please bring them along, or use our supplies. The cost is just £1.00 per person and includes tea / coffee and biscuits.
Table Tennis
Thursdays, 2.00pm
We hold table tennis on a Thursday afternoon. Feel free to join in and play a match against other opponents.
