Welcome
Welcome to Braintree Bowling Club. We are a club where new members, both beginners and experienced are always welcome no matter what your age or abilities.
If you are a beginner, we also hold coaching sessions to get you started on the bowling green.
We hope you will come and join us. If you would like further details, please feel free to contact us.
Our Club
Our Club is a private members lawn green bowling club founded in 1919. We are situated very close to the town centre with nearby transport links. Our facilities include a clubhouse, licensed bar, private parking and of course, a very well kept bowling green.
For non bowlers, we have social membership for accompanying spouses / family of full members. We also run various activities and social events throughout the year.
Members
The Club has a history of success at both National and County individual and team competitions and members are encouraged to enter external competitions.
We enter mixed and non mixed friendly matches and the more competitive games against other clubs and league matches, both home and away. We also have an internal league and a “Roll Up” for club members to play friendly games against each other.
Come and join us for a great bowling experience.
Club News & What's On
Annual Indoor / Outdoor Competition - Colchester IBC
Format
Well that stage of the indoor season has arrived where our Club would usually compete in the annual indoor/outdoor competition held at Colchester Indoor Bowls Club.
Due to low entries this year the format has changed to teams of 5 players (called a “fantastic fives” format) where between the 5 players, they will play a singles, pairs, triples and fours match.
Braintree decided to enter 2 squads in the competition this season, one captained by Malcolm Stark the other captained by Serena-Jayne Madgewick.
The Teams
Serena’s Squad:
Cadell Lench / Gill Costin / Eddie Hawkins / Olive Hawkins / Andy Beatty / Keith Rixon
Malcolm’s Squad:
Steve Dunn / Graham Thompson / Andy Moore / Martin Smith / Michael Ayres.
Both teams were drawn into separate groups so avoided each other during the group stage phase. Despite both teams playing some good bowls, unfortunately mixed results came for the 2 teams.
Results
Serena’s squad won their opening game 6-2. However, a 1-7 and 2-6 loss in the next 2 games saw them exit at the group stages after finishing 3rd in the group.
Malcolm’s squad won all 3 group games, 7-1, 8-0, 8-0, ensuring 1st place in the group. They now advance to the semi finals at Colchester Indoor Bowls Club on Sunday 22nd March at 1.00pm with the final to follow the same day should the team advance. Our Club wishes them well to win the competition and the £250 1st prize. Any support would be more than welcome to cheer the team on.
